Free Puppy

We are looking for a home for this little guy. He is four months old. He's half Maltese and half Shih Tzu. He's really cute and friendly. Let me know if you have a home for him.

Fun Times

We had another Reading Fun Room today. Drew was our top boy point earner, Rylee was our top girl, and Eli was honorable mention. Great job you three! We celebrated Brandon's birthday last week. He turned 7 on February 12th!

Our Valentine's party was loads of fun. We made ice cream sundaes and bookmarks. We also had a great time passing out cards to our friends.

100 Points

Drew and Lance both made it to 100 points in Accelerated Reader! You may remember Cal earning 100 points earlier this year. This is an amazing amount of points for first grade. Lance has read and passed 235 books already this year. Drew has read and passed 226 books this year including several chapter books! Wow!
As a reward, all three boys went to help out Coach Fortner in P.E.

Great job boys!

Let's Celebrate!

Rylee and Scotty both had birthdays that we celebrated in class.
We also had our first Fun Room last week for reading. Lance was our top boy reader, Myla was our top girl reader and Cal was honorable mention because he read several chapter books one week!

Love

I asked a few of the kids about their parents and the love they share.

Layne says her parents met in kindergarten. They always liked each other. They started dating in kindergarten. They got married and went to Arkansas or something. What her mom likes most about her dad is that he does most of the laundry. Her dad likes it when her mom puts all her make-up on and looks like a movie star.

Evanson says his mom loves it when his dad cleans the driveway at his house.

Drew 's mom sometimes mows the lawn when his dad does it too much. He said his dad likes that. His mom likes it when his dad cleans (with the help of Drew and his sister). He says they got married at St. Paul's and he can tell they love each other.

I also had the students write a paper where they finished this statement: Love is...

Lance said, "Love is when anybody does anything for me".

Cal said, "Love is about bonding with someone that you really really like. An example: Like me and Drew you know we sometimes fight but we work it out".

Layne said, "Love is patient and kind. Love is like someone in Haiti needs money and helping them out".
Scotty said, "Love is home".

Alli said, "Love is romantic".
Bryce said, "Love is like if someone takes you to Simple Simons".

Evanson said, "Love is like when my mom makes me rice and sausage".
Pretty sweet huh?

Wild Things!

Seneca Elementary hosted a family reading night last night. Families were able to come eat chili and listen to stories read by our staff. The night ended with a performance from our first grade wild things!

The Title One teachers were the wildest things of all!

Mrs. Whitehead, our music teacher, put together an amazing show.

I read the story, "Where the Wild Things Are" and the children acted out the story. They sang songs, showed their terrible claws, and my favorite...rolled their terrible eyes.

I read this story to my class in October. There is a part in the story where Max sailed away in his private boat. I asked the children if they knew what the word private meant. One child said, "that's a part of your body that nobody should look at except maybe your doctor". Somehow I didn't see that one coming!

One day last week I went home and told my husband that the kids were really wild that day. My first grader said, "Mom, they're probably just in character for the show"!

I do love my wild things!!
