What an Adventure

Yesterday was an exciting day. Water started coming down our hallway and into our room. Then it started coming through the wall on the other side of the room. We ended up getting to hang out in Mrs. Asbill's room (a second grade classroom) and then went home early. The kids were very well behaved and seemed to be enjoying the adventure. At one point as the water was creeping in our classroom Emaleigh shouts out, "It's okay Mrs. Ward, I CAN SWIM!"

Commanding Katie

I guess I need to be careful what words I use to teach things. We have been talking about different types of sentences. Last week we discussed "commands". I explained that a command tells someone what to do. Early this week Katie told me her and her mom made cupcakes and asked if I wanted her to bring me one. I said, "Of course I do!" She responded, "Ok, I'll command my mom to give you one." I guess the important thing is...I got a cupcake!

200 POINTS!!

Tanner made it to 200 AR points today! He's been driving me and his mom crazy to try to reach this goal by the end of the year. I was feeling relieved that he made it so we could all relax. After he announced that he earned 200 points, he sat at his seat with his chapter books and said, "I gotta keep reading...I want to get to 225!"

The class was really proud of him and I am too! He went to PE with Coach Fortner for his reward.

Way to Go Mallorie!

Mallorie made it to 100 points today!! She's been working really hard and reading a ton of books lately. What's her big motivation? Her grandma told her she would give her $5 if she made it to 100 AR points!

She has chosen to go to Miss Anderson's 2nd grade class today for her reward. Congrats Mal!!

Topic of Conversation

I will not use names to protect the innocent...And by innocent, I mean the parents!

After lunch today, as we were sitting in our seats getting ready for math, this was the conversation:

Child One: "Something stinks!"

Child Two: "Oh, that was me, I farted."

Child Three: "You know what makes me gassy? Mashed potatoes and gravy"

Hey Everybody, Take a Look!

I am so proud of this first grade class! There are many of them who are reading chapter books and passing the AR tests on them. Of course these aren't all of the kids who have passed chapter books, just a few.
I'm so proud of the whole class. Everyone's reading has improved.
When they pass a chapter book we do this cheer: Hey everybody, take a look! Josh passed a chapter book!

Drama Mama

Wison's mom brought a couple of girls from her drama class to do some storytelling for us.

Sabrina (one of my third graders years ago) and Sam did an amazing job. They used the cutest voices and such great expression to tell children's stories.
The kids were laughing so hard and were so into the stories. Then the girls signed our autograph books and posed for some pics.

The kids also wanted Wilson's mom to sign their autograph books too.

We really enjoyed their stories and hope to have the drama class back again!

Happy Birthday Denessa!

Our sweet, little cadet teacher from the high school turned 17 on Wednesday. We celebrated today.
The kids bowed down to her 18 times!
We ate snacks and of course complimented her, told her funny jokes, and sang songs to her.

All of the kids adore Denessa, but Angeline LOVES her! She can't wait for Denessa to come each day.

We are so lucky to have her in our classroom each day. Happy Birthday Denessa!
