Christmas Fun

Our Christmas party was a lot of fun. We made edible reindeer, played a game, ate yummy snacks, and decorated ornaments. The kids loved it.Today we had a pajama day and made Christmas trees that we could eat!Scotty's fell to the floor and he yelled, "Timber". Funny huh?

Our cadet teacher, Stevie, brought us yummy presents. Thanks Stevie!

Love to Give

Instead of a class gift exchange the first graders brought gifts for the elderly people at our local nursing homes and even wrapped the gifts themselves!
Rylee is glad we bought gifts for them because "we already get lots of gifts" she says.

Myla says, "I like Christmas when people are giving". She also says, "They probably never get anything nice. We bought them tissues, eyeglass holders, cards, notepads, socks, pens, and much more". She later added, "It makes me feel really good".

What sweet spirits these kids have!

No Job Like It!

There are not many professions were you get to say, "Don't ever limbo under someone else's urine again" or "Keep your boogers in your own nose". Where you get to tie shoes all day and you aren't sure where those shoestrings have been. Where you zip coats and pants. Fix hair and wipe tears.

There aren't a lot of professions where you get to hear about all the funny (probably too personal) things that happen at home, like when I asked the class to bring in items from magazines and newspapers one little girl said, "Sorry Mrs. Ward I'm not allowed to cut up our newspapers and magazines because my dad reads those while he's on the pot."

I'm always impressed with a six-year-old's honesty too. I have been told things like I'm old and my hair is messy. But I'm also told daily that I'm pretty and the best teacher in the world. (My husband says I teach for my ego).

The best parts about teaching little ones is seeing the excitement in their eyes when they catch on to something we're learning or give you the biggest hugs and tell you they love you.
This is Scotty. Randomly during the day I'll look up and he's grinning holding up a sign on his whiteboard where he has written "I love you Mrs. Ward".

What a great job I have!! Thank you for sharing your child with me each day.

HOLY CAL!

Cal made it to 100 points in Accelerated Reader. That is an amazing amount of points for anyone, but for a 1st grader at this point in the year is unbelievable! Since he was the first one to make it to 100 points he earned $5.
The entire class was very proud of him. Way to go Cal!

Math Measuring Fun

In math today we worked with a partner and measured items using linking cubes.
Some of the kids even measured Bryce. He was 59 linking cubes tall!

The children had to work together in a kind way and solve their own problems.

Everyone did well and they seemed to enjoy the activity.

When I Was a Baby

We've been reading An Egg is an Egg this week. It tells how everything changes. In class we've been discussing how we have changed.

Layne says when she was a baby she couldn't walk and now she can. Lance said he couldn't swim when he was a baby, but now he can. Scotty said he sucked his thumb when he was a baby, but he doesn't now.

This video is a picture of my baby. He just learned to walk last weekend! They grow up so fast and learn new things everyday.

Show and Tell

Show and Tell day is always very informative. The kids show and tell pretty much anything. Destiny showed her horse named, "Mrs. Ward". Do we look alike? Never mind, don't answer that!
Jason showed a snakeskin that he found at his house. Of course the kids LOVED that! Gross!

Rylee and Layne showed off their attitude in a dance.

Patricia showed a turtle shell that some of the kids were brave enough to hold!

Everyone was interested in Drew's chainsaw. It was loud!

Myla brought bath supplies to show.

Marcus is excited about going deer hunting this weekend. He showed the class some of the supplies he takes with him.

Sierra told me she had a puppy in her backpack. I asked her if it was real and she said, "Seriously Mrs. Ward?"
I have had a second-grader catch a stray cat at the bus stop one year and bring it in her backpack, so it's not out of the question!

Alli brought a cute bear.

Brandon brought a bat signed by "The Power Team" that he saw at church. It sounded really interesting!

Lance told us that he has done 300 push-ups before. I asked him to prove it, but after 2 he said his legs were sore from wrestling.

However this prompted the rest of the class to show me their push-ups!

Cheerleaders Are State Bound

Jessica and Katie came to our class to read to us today. They read "If You Give a Moose a Muffin". The kids enjoyed the story.

They also asked them questions like, "Are you nervous to go up in the air", "How do you do a flip", "Have you ever fallen", "Can you break dance", and "Do you have any kids". Interesting questions!

They signed autograph books and were asked by a couple of boys if they had boyfriends. Then some of the kids asked them for their phone numbers.

I had Katie in third grade. I found some pictures that I shared with her and the class from her third grade year. She was a cutie then too!Bryce goes up in a stunt! Maybe he can be their alternate!

Our own cadet teacher, Stevie, is also on the squad. We really want them to win State for the third year in a row!!
